Lifeguard

The primary responsibility as a lifeguard is to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring. Candidates must be able to ensure the safety of members and their guests by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. Lifeguards must be able to independently and proactively enforce pool policies and be able to communicate effectively why policies are in place.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 15 years or older

  • StarGuard or Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required.

  • CPR/ First Aid/AED Certification required.

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from NHSC

  • Pool Operator Certification encouraged

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).

  • Actively guards and scan the pool area at all times; refrains from socializing while guarding. 

  • Communicate and enforce all pool policies and rules in a personable and professional manner. 

  • Interact with NHSC members, guests and other staff in a professional, friendly and courteous manner.

  • Dress and appearance are consistent with NHSC standards including wearing your swimsuit, guard shirt, whistle and tube while on duty. 

  • Conduct pool inspections and complete pool chemical logs and report imbalances or concerns to the supervisor [Pool Ops Certified]. 

  • Complete daily prep and facility cleaning assignments. 

  • Attend and participate in regular in-service trainings. 

  • Provide a welcoming environment for all patrons. 

  • Document any incidents and/or injuries. 

  • Maintain a clean and tidy work space 

  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

PAY: Competitive hourly rate to be discussed with DRD Pools

Water Safety Instructor

The primary responsibility as a Water Safety Instructor (WSI)  is to oversee Red Cross Cerified group swim lessons hosted at North Harford Swim Club. 

.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification required

  • Previous experience preferred

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from NHSC

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Provide leadership and guidance of skills during the class through attentiveness to individual participant’s and group learning needs.

  • Responsible for maintaining and submitting course skills sheets, completion cards and attendance records in a timely manner.

  • Assess participants progress and make recommendations for appropriate classes.

  • Maintain communication with participants and affiliates to ensure progress updates are relayed.

  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).

  • Consistently and confidently enforce all NHSC policies to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all swim lesson participants 

  • Interact with NHSC swim lesson participants and other staff in a professional, friendly and courteous manner.

  • Dress and appearance are consistent with NHSC standards while on duty. 

The DIVE Staff

The primary responsibility of The DIVE Staff is to provide friendly and courteous food and beverage service to North Harford Swim Club patrons. Computer software and food service equipment training to be provided when hired.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 14 or older

  • Must have reliable transportation 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Interacting with NHSC members, guests and other staff in a professional, friendly and courteous manner.

  • Taking and delivering food and beverage orders in a timely manner

  • Recording food, beverage and item purchases in computer system linked to correct member accounts

  • Operating food service equipment

  • Cleaning and maintaining food service equipment and work area per Health Department and NHSC standards

  • Dress and appearance are consistent with NHSC standards including wearing your DIVE Staff shirt, appropriate footwear and food service gloves (when necessary) while on duty.

  • Cleaning and maintaining surfaces and tables in the main pavilion area

  • Taking inventory, reporting stock needs to appropriate personnel, and updating menu to reflect available items

 

PAY:  $13.25/hour

Check-In Staff

The primary responsibility of the Check-In Staff is to be present at the check-in window of the NHSC main office to assist members and guests upon arrival. By utilizing a community member in this position, it provides the opportunity for Lifeguards to remain in key positions at the swim club during working hours. The Check-In Staff will familiarize themselves with NHSC members in an attempt to provide friendly, courteous service and prevent unauthorized entry of underage/unaccompanied members or non-members and improper guest pass usage.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 25 or older

  • Computer proficiency [specific software training will be provided]

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Interacting with NHSC members, guests and other staff in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Check-in members and guests in a timely manner

  • Assist members with adding funds to account balances, purchasing and utilizing guest passes or replacement swim bands

  • Answer Swim Club phone, taking and delivering messages to appropriate personnel.

  • Familiarize themselves with NHSC policies and procedures and be able to communicate to members and guests

  • Maintaining a tidy work space
