LEVEL 1: Intro to Water Skills (for children 3+ years)

Parent *may* be asked to sit poolside at instructor’s discretion.

 

Your child may be right for this class if:

  • This is your child’s first time with swim lessons.

  • Your child presents with fear or apprehension toward water experiences.

  • Has only experienced the water in a floatation device.

This class will begin to introduce the building blocks of successful swimming- a barrier (ability
to keep water from entering the airway), a horizontal body position via floating and gliding, intro
to kicking and submersion. Learning to wait safely for their turn and only come into the water
when an adult gives permission will also be emphasized.

LEVEL 2: Elementary Swimming

Your child may be right for this class if:

  • They have graduated Level 1.

  • They are comfortable in a horizontal body position with neutral spine.

  • They are comfortable in the water and have begun to gain proficiency with doggy paddle.

 

Level 2 will introduce the swim-float-swim concept, building on the four pillars of Level 1’s
curriculum. Arm propulsion will be added to kicking, assisted rolling into and out of a back
float, and safety topics will be practiced, such as jumping in and surfacing into a back float.

 

LEVEL 3: Endurance and Independence

 

Your child may be right for this class if:

  • They have graduated Level 2.

  • They are able to independently float and “swimming” includes their face fully in the water with

  • coordinated arms and leg movements.

 

This class will strengthen the swim-float-swim sequence over greater distances, encourage
treading, jumping into deeper water and recovering to a safe spot, backstroke, swimming
down to retrieve objects, and introduce to diving with goals
of a fully independent swimmer
upon graduation.

 

LEVEL 4: Stroke Improvement

Your child may be right for this class if:

  • They have graduated Level 3.

  • They are a fully independent swimmer with no safety concerns.

Level 4 will transition the swimmers from a swim-float-swim methodology to freestyle with
rotary breathing. Backstroke will be strengthened, breaststroke and butterfly kick will be
introduced. The beginning stages of diving and deep water activities will also be included.

 

LEVEL 5: Stroke Refinement

 

Your child may be right for this class if:

  • They have graduated Level 4.

  • Your child can swim freestyle and backstroke at a beginner level, is comfortable in deep water.

 

Level 5 will address hydrodynamics and efficiency. Freestyle and backstroke will be refined.
Arms and breathing patterns will be added to breaststroke and butterfly. Diving, deep water
games, and turns will be introduced. Classes may also include open water context.

 

LEVEL 6: Proficiency

 

Your child may be right for this class if:

  • They have graduated Level 5.

  • There is interest in swim team, and/or your family frequents open water environments.

 

Level 6 will aim to ready the participants for swimming as a competitive sport/fitness activity.
Swimmers will be largely coached from the deck with focuses on refining breaststroke and
butterfly, and working in sets to build speed and stamina for longer distances. Etiquette,
sportsmanship, and teamwork will be highlighted. Classes may include various applications of
water confidence.
